Senator Rick Scott visited Pinellas County to receive updates from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on Hurricane Milton's response and high-water rescue missions. He has been in constant contact with federal officials, local leaders, law enforcement, and emergency management personnel across the state affected by Hurricane Milton. The senator emphasized the need for resources to assist Floridians in recovery efforts.

On Thursday, Senator Scott spoke with President Joe Biden about the hurricane response and recovery, stressing the importance of fully funding FEMA, SBA, HUD, and USDA for disaster relief. Discussions also took place with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzmán. Throughout the week, Scott visited Sarasota, Hillsborough, Lee, and Charlotte counties to assess damages and gather information from local officials.

In a joint effort with Senator Marco Rubio and Representative Vern Buchanan, Senator Scott participated in sending a bipartisan letter urging President Biden to approve Florida's request for an expedited Major Disaster Declaration following Hurricane Milton. This request was subsequently approved by President Biden. Residents of 34 designated counties can now apply for financial assistance through FEMA.

Senator Rick Scott stated: "The damage here in Pinellas County is devastating... I'm completely focused on ensuring that FEMA, SBA, HUD and USDA are fully funded for disaster recovery."

Scott also emphasized: "While life-saving work continues... everyone needs to stay vigilant and safe." He encouraged those needing federal agency assistance to visit his website.

Prior to landfall of Hurricane Milton, Senator Scott maintained daily communication with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) for updates. He traveled along Florida’s Gulf Coast urging families to stay safe and prepared while coordinating resources needed for storm response.

Additionally, Senators Scott and Rubio have written letters supporting Florida's emergency declaration requests before Hurricane Milton made landfall. These were approved after their submission. The senators further requested federal agencies expedite plans addressing potential obstructions at Tampa Bay port due to its significant role in Florida's petroleum supply chain.
