Today, Senator Rick Scott responded to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' September jobs report, which revealed an increase in the unemployment rate to 4.1% from 3.8% a year ago. The report highlighted a rise in multiple job holders by 412,000 and nearly one million additional part-time jobs over the month, while full-time positions decreased by 251,000.
Senator Scott expressed concern about these figures, stating that they reflect an unstable job market for many Americans. He attributed these economic challenges to what he describes as the "Biden-Harris administration’s reckless and radical agenda."
"The Biden-Harris administration and its friends in the press want you to only see the top-line jobs number – but that doesn’t tell the whole story," said Senator Scott. He noted that despite the increase in part-time work and multiple job holders, full-time employment has declined both over the year and since last month.
Scott shared personal anecdotes from his interactions with Floridians who face financial difficulties due to current economic conditions. "When I travel around Florida and talk to families, I hear heartbreaking stories about parents having to take on multiple jobs," he remarked.
He further criticized what he calls "Harris Price Hikes" and expressed concerns about small businesses closing down due to recent events like Hurricane Helene. Reflecting on his own upbringing in public housing, Scott recalled his mother's struggles with holding multiple jobs to support their family.
Senator Scott reaffirmed his commitment to addressing America's debt crisis and inflation issues. He stated, "I won’t stop fighting like hell every day to fix the havoc the Biden-Harris administration has brought on folks’ lives."
The senator's statement also referenced his ongoing efforts since being elected to tackle these economic challenges.
