Following the suspension of Rob Malley, the U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, for being a potential counterintelligence threat, Republican Senators demanded an investigation into the Biden-Harris Administration’s actions. The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) concluded that the U.S. Department of State mishandled Malley’s suspension and violated the Department’s protocols and procedures.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued a statement regarding the investigation’s conclusion.

“This Inspector General’s report is clear that the Biden-Harris Administration failed to protect our national security interests by allowing Rob Malley to allegedly engage in classified conversations following his suspension over mishandling classified materials. For months, we’ve tried to get to the bottom of whether or not the State Department complied with all the appropriate laws, procedures, and regulations following Malley’s suspension. It’s clear they did not.

“It’s deeply disturbing that an individual with a suspended security clearance retained access to our nation’s sensitive and controlled information as well as to senior U.S. government officials. This scathing OIG report, and the fact that Malley currently remains under FBI investigation, is further proof that the Biden-Harris Administration can’t be trusted to safeguard American security and protect us from those who seek to destroy America like the regime in Tehran.” – Senator Rubio
