WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rick Scott joined Representative María Elvira Salazar, Chair of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, along with Senator Bill Cassidy and Representatives Carlos A. Giménez, Mario Díaz-Balart, Mike Waltz, Jenniffer González-Colón, and Keith Self to issue a statement in response to Honduran President Xiomara Castro de Zelaya's decision to revoke the extradition treaty between the United States and Honduras.

The members wrote, “We are deeply concerned by Honduran President Xiomara Castro’s recent decision to terminate the extradition treaty between the United States and Honduras, which has been an important tool in combating criminal gangs and human traffickers operating in Honduras. This reckless decision by President Castro endangers the future of military and police cooperation between the United States and Honduras. The economic well-being and security of Honduras and its citizens are closely tied to the United States. We believe this decision undermines our shared priorities and jeopardizes our relationship.”
