The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Carney, homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, has returned after an eight-month deployment to the Middle East. This historic deployment included 51 engagements with Iranian-backed terrorists, marking the most engagements with a foreign adversary by a Naval vessel since World War II.

U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) introduced a resolution recognizing Commander Jeremy Robertson and the USS Carney crew for their heroism and bravery in intercepting missiles and drones.

“The heroic actions by Commander Jeremy Robertson and the crew on the USS Carney serve as an inspiration and testament to the importance of defending America and its values abroad. The American people are eternally grateful for the USS Carney’s officers and crew for their acts of bravery in protecting both our allies and our interests in the Middle East,” said Senator Rubio.

“I’m proud to join a bipartisan group of my colleagues in recognizing the bravery, sacrifices, and resilience of the crew of the USS Carney during a 235-day deployment in the Middle East. As the Seapower Chair on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue to support our nation’s servicemembers and their families, who sacrifice so much to defend our freedom and national security,” stated Senator Kaine.

“Welcome home to the brave Sailors aboard USS Carney. Your bravery and service in defending our nation in the face of terror is admirable, and it is because of great Americans like you who answered the call that we wake up and enjoy freedom and liberty. Your historic deployment to the Middle East, where the Navy saw the most enemy engagements since World War II, is a testament to your sacrifice and dedication towards creating a safer world. Congratulations to the entire crew on a successful deployment. Your country thanks you for your service,” remarked Senator Scott.

“I join all Americans in expressing my profound gratitude to the crew of the USS Carney, who so bravely protected our national security and American interests across the globe during their deployment in the Middle East. Our bipartisan resolution demonstrates our thanks to these heroes who represent the best of our nation,” added Senator Shaheen.
