"We have a wide open southern border, and every month, hundreds of thousands of people are breaking into our country illegally. No serious person disputes this," stated Sen. Rick Scott in a recent commentary.

According to Scott, the current administration's immigration policies, led by Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, have contributed to the situation at the southern border. "Our 'border czar,' Vice President Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden have allowed this to happen. Again, this is indisputable," he said.

Scott further claimed that these policies are not merely due to incompetence but suggest a strategic motive by Democrats to allow illegal immigrants into the country for potential voting benefits. "It is only logical to assume they like the idea of people coming here illegally so they can vote in our elections and help Democrats win," he asserted.

The senator highlighted opposition from Democrats towards the SAVE Act—a bill designed to ensure only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections. "This legislation makes clear only U.S. citizens get to vote in our elections," Scott emphasized.

He argued that enforcing citizenship verification is essential for maintaining election integrity: "We need to mandate citizenship verification because we cannot risk allowing the non-citizens Harris has illegally let into our country to vote in our elections."

Recent reports from Texas, Alabama, and Virginia revealed that approximately 16,000 non-citizens were removed from voter rolls in these states last month alone. Texas Governor Greg Abbott noted that up to 2,000 non-citizens might have voted in previous elections.

"The SAVE Act would fix this," Scott explained. The proposed bill requires states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering voters for federal elections and mandates removal of non-citizens from voter rolls using databases provided by the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration.

However, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has blocked its passage while House Speaker Mike Johnson supports attaching it to an upcoming continuing resolution needed for government funding.

"I refuse to cave to Schumer and the Washington establishment and have no intention of supporting any funding measure that doesn’t include the SAVE Act," concluded Scott.

Rick Scott represents Florida in the United States Senate and is a former governor of Florida.
