WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, U.S. Congressman John H. Rutherford (FL-05) released a statement regarding the markup and passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations bill by the House Appropriations Committee.

“This year’s THUD Appropriations bill makes important investments in our transportation infrastructure and responsible housing assistance for our nation’s most vulnerable, including the elderly, disabled, and veterans,” said Rutherford.

He noted that the bill eliminates over $430 million in unauthorized Biden Administration initiatives, including Green New Deal programs. Additionally, it prohibits the Biden Administration’s final greenhouse gas emissions rule and blocks efforts to fund climate and equity initiatives.

The bill includes several of Rutherford's priorities:

- Investment in safer streets and economic development in Northeast Florida

- Maintenance of a world-class, safe, and efficient transportation network

- Support for vulnerable individuals relying on federally supported housing

- Countering Chinese influence in autonomous vehicle manufacturing

- Blocking revised energy standards for newly constructed homes financed by HUD that would increase costs

- Prohibiting DOT and HUD from implementing executive orders on equity action plans and Critical Race Theory

- Banning new commercial flights to Cuba

“These are huge wins for our infrastructure, our country, and Northeast Florida," Rutherford stated. "That is why I am proud to report this year’s Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill out of committee and hope to see strong support for this legislation on the House floor.”
