WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee have introduced the Verifying that all Aliens have Legitimate Identification Documents (VALID) Act in response to the Biden administration's acceptance of the CBP One Mobile App as a form of identification for air travel. This legislation aims to address loopholes exploited by illegal immigrants for travel within the United States.
The VALID Act has garnered support from various senators, including Roger Marshall, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Braun, and John Thune. Senator Rick Scott expressed his concerns, stating, "Biden's TSA has made the choice to allow illegal aliens with no verified identification to use the CBP One Mobile App before flying on commercial airlines into U.S. airports. This is unacceptable and dangerous."
Senator Mike Lee highlighted the disparity in identification requirements, emphasizing, "Every American needs to show ID to enter our country. So why do we make it simpler for illegal immigrants to come in than for our own people?" He added, "The VALID Act resolves to close the loopholes that have allowed 200,000 illegal immigrants into the country unchecked."
Senator Roger Marshall criticized the Biden administration's border policies, stating, "Joe Biden's reckless open-border policies have spiraled out of control and created the most immediate national security threat that our country faces." Marshall expressed his support for the VALID Act in addressing the challenges posed by illegal immigration.
Chad Wolf, former acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, raised concerns about the security implications of the CBP One Mobile App acceptance, noting that it undermines established security standards for air travel. Wolf emphasized the importance of reining in these abuses through the VALID Act to ensure the safety of the American people.
Key provisions of the VALID Act include prohibiting the TSA from accepting the CBP One Mobile App, Notice to Appear (NTA), or Notice to Report (NTR) as valid forms of identification and banning aircraft from foreign countries accepting these forms as legal identification from operating in U.S. airspace.
