U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has criticized President Joe Biden for his perceived weakness on Iran, which he claims has endangered American troops. In an op-ed for Newsweek, Rubio expressed his concerns about the Biden administration's approach towards Iran and its impact on the safety of U.S. personnel.

Rubio had previously warned that Iran-backed terrorists would launch attacks on American troops unless Biden clearly stated that Iran would be held responsible for any violence committed by Shia proxies in the region. However, Rubio believes that Biden failed to deliver this message and downplayed Iran's role in supporting and training Hamas.

The consequences of this approach became apparent when Shia militia groups attacked U.S. personnel at least 19 times within a week, resulting in over 20 wounded individuals. Rubio expressed his dissatisfaction with the delay in the Biden administration's acknowledgment of Iran's active involvement in these attacks. He stated, "I’m glad for the Biden Administration’s recent admission that Iran is 'actively facilitating these attacks,' and I’m glad for the Pentagon’s statement that 'we will ultimately hold Iran responsible.' But these came two weeks late."

Rubio further criticized Biden for his decision to restart nuclear negotiations with Iran early in his presidency and for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. He accused Biden of rewarding the Iranian regime by promising to unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian funds and argued that these actions would only embolden the Ayatollah and his followers who regularly chant "Death to America!" and "Death to Israel!" during prayers.

The senator highlighted an upcoming Senate Committee on Appropriations hearing where Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will testify. Rubio suggested that the Biden administration will have to answer questions about its actions and inactions over the past three weeks regarding the growing number of conflicts facing the world.

Rubio's concerns reflect growing criticism from the Republican party regarding the Biden administration's handling of Iran and its potential impact on the safety of American troops. The senator's op-ed serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges and complexities in the Middle East and emphasizes the need for a strong and decisive approach towards Iran to protect American interests and personnel.
