Edward Waters' non-conference traction on Wednesday afternoon proved to be fruitful for the Lady Tigers as they swept a home doubleheader against NAIA member Montreat College. EWU won Game 1, 6-1 and had a come-from-behind 10-3 victory in Game 2 at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Park.

GAME ONE: Edward Waters 6, Montreat 1:
The Purple & Orange started the scoring in the bottom half of the second inning when Laura Scott hit a two-RBI single to center field to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Edward Waters tacked on another run in the bottom of the third when Kylah Gardner crushed a solo home run over the center field wall to push lead to 3-0.

Another lone run was added in the bottom of the fourth when Scott hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right field that scored Alyssa Charter-Smith, extending the advantage to 4-0. The Cavaliers were finally able to hit the scoreboard in the top of the 5th on an RBI single to cut the advantage to three.

A Jazmine Lamug RBI double brough home Kylah Gardner in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead back out to four at 5-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Jade Mention added insurance with an RBI fielder's choice to give the Lady Tigers a 6-1 lead that they were able to to see through to the end.

Tiara Peters was the lone Lady Tiger with multiple hits in the contest, going 2-for-3. Jodasea Peterson pitched an effective contest for EWU with a complete game effort, allowing just four hits, one earned run, while striking out two.

GAME TWO: Edward Waters 10, Montreat 3:
Edward Waters had to work a bit harder in Game Two as the final score was not completely indicative of how tight the contest was in the first four innings of play. Laura Scott started the festivities off in the bottom of the first, scoring on a passed ball for the first run of the contest. Kylah Gardner hit into a fielder's choice that scored Jade Mention to double the EWU lead to 2-0.

Things got interesting in the top of the third when the visitors plated three runs to take a one run lead, a lead that would be maintained until the bottom of the fourth. A Hailey Barfoot RBI single started things off to tie the ballgame. Kayla Sauders hit an RBI sac fly that allowed Jazmine Lamug to score and give EWU the lead back at 4-3.

The Lady Tigers put the proverbial hammer down in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs to put the game out of reach. Jazmine Lamug's two-RBI single, an RBI single from Katie Goodin, an Alyssa Charter-Smith sacrifice fly to center, and Emily Smith's two-RBI single gave EWU a commanding seven run lead that was more than enough to win the contest and preserve the sweep.

Jazmine Lamug led the Lady Tigers going 2-for-3, with two RBI's and two runs scored, while Laura Scott finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Alyssa Charter-Smith earned the win for EWU going 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, four walks, and seven strikeouts.

Edward Waters will return to SIAC play, starting a three-game home set against Albany State. The series begins with a single contest on Saturday at 1:00pm at Nip Sams Park.
