Movies on the House (MOTH) is reborn this spring with an exciting lineup of art house, international, documentary, and LGBTQ+ cinema. The series will kick off with a screening of “After Blue (Dirty Paradise),” a long and strange journey across supranatural territories, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Robinson Theater, Building 14A, Room 1314.
MOTH was originally proposed in 1998 by UNF Interim President Fretwell, who wanted to create a community centered on cinema. He established a fund that could provide students, faculty, staff, and the wider community with great films to ponder, discuss, and be moved by. He entrusted the project to Dr. Jason Mauro to develop the series.
For more than twenty years, Mauro has been devoted to the view that film is the source of our most widely shared stories, and that watching films together helps us understand each other in a way that can never happen by watching films alone on our laptops, phones, and televisions. Now, Dr. Mauro is grateful to hand the series over to Dr. Nicholas de Villiers, who will usher UNF’s beloved MOTH series into the next two decades.
Every week, audiences have a chance to see films that don’t often make it or disappear too quickly at multiplex theatres. Some upcoming movies include “Dressed in Blue” and “Call Her Ganda.”
