In honor and memory of Amy Wainright, a writing instructor at the University of North Florida from 1993 until 2013, the Department of English will award major annual prizes for the best undergraduate creative writing to eligible students in four categories: poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and scriptwriting. The competition is open to all fully enrolled UNF undergraduates who reside in Florida for tuition purposes, maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Manuscripts must consist of original work(s) of which submitters are the sole author and must comply with format guidelines and entry requirements. The deadline for submissions is Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.
In each category, the prize is $1,000* and departmental recognition. The winning writing this year will be published in whole or in part on broadside posters that will be displayed in the Department of English and around the campus, as well as on the department website. Along with the winner, the competition judges will name finalists in each category. Winners and finalists will be announced on Monday, Mar. 13, 2023.
*Award is contingent upon Florida residency, full-time enrollment, GPA, and financial aid eligibility.
