Edward Waters College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
The good vibes keep rolling along for the Edward Waters men's basketball squad as the Tigers pick up their sixth consecutive win and seventh win in their last eight outings in a convincing 82-68 road win over the University of Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday evening on the campus of Broward College.
The opening ten minutes of the first half were a back and forth affair with each team trading shots and opportunities with the lead. Edward Waters (13-10) began to separate themselves from UFTL at the halfway mark of the half, building their lead up to as much as 15. EWU was able to hang on to their double digit advantage, leading 35-24 at halftime.
The second half saw the EWU lead grow to as much as 18 points at the start of the half. The homestanding Eagles drew to within seven points of the lead at 57-50 of the lead with 8:53 remaining in the second half. The visitors had other plans in mind, going on an impressive 18-2 run to effectively provide all the advantage they needed to close the contest out in victory and notch their fourth road straight win.
The Tigers for the game outshot UFTL 46% to 38%, and also had a 38% to 30% advantage from three-point range. Edward Waters lived in the paint, dominating the Eagle 34-14 and also forced 23 Eagle turnovers that turned into 25 Tiger points.
Senior guard Jordan Jackson led a quartet of Tigers who scored in double figures, posting 14 points. Senior center Bryant Nolan, Jr. had 12 points for the Tigers, while sophomore guard Cahlib Edwards and sophomore center Jonathan Kayanga each had 10 points on the night.
Edward Waters will return home for the second half of the home and home series with UFTL next Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at the James Weldon Johnson Auxiliary Gymnasium.
