Duval County Public Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Data released on Tuesday by the Florida Department of Education shows Duval’s graduation rate was 89.6% for the 2021 graduating class.
Comparisons to previous years are difficult due to steps the state has taken to minimize the impact of the pandemic on students.
These steps included a waiver of required state assessments for graduation as stipulated in Florida Statute 1003.4282. Approximately 9.3% of Duval’s Class of 2021 graduated with these exemptions. Because of this, Duval’s rate remains significantly higher than pre-pandemic years and is 0.6% lower than the 2019-20 graduation rate.
“While some students were provided certain exemptions, the graduation rate reflects the incredible efforts of our educators, school and district leaders, staff, and students,” said Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene. “Even though there was a small statistical decline compared to the previous year, Duval’s graduation success is a remarkable story. Just a decade ago, this rate was in the low 70s. From the recent pre-pandemic years through today, we celebrate significantly higher levels of student achievement, and that achievement is a positive reflection on all of Team Duval.”
Notably, Darnell-Cookman School of Medical Arts and Stanton College Preparatory School delivered a 100% graduation rate, and all traditional high schools exceeded an 85% graduation rate.

Highlights
- Duval exceeded the state average for subgroup performance for African American students, Hispanic students, Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Subgroup graduation rates were as follows:
- African American subgroup: 88.2%
- Hispanic subgroup: 89.7%
- Low Socioeconomic subgroup: 83.0%
- Students with Disabilities subgroup: 84.6%
- English Language Learners subgroup: 87.7%
