Men's Volleyball Hosts Inaugural exhibition Match

Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 12.

For the first time in the history of Edward Waters University, sixteen men donned the Purple & Orange taking part in the first men's volleyball match in program history. The Tigers hosted NCAA Division III powerhouse and national championship participant, Lancaster Bible College in an exhibition match at Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association on Tuesday evening.

Despite a valiant effort from the young Tigers, Lancaster Bible was able to escape with a five set victory (25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 20-25, 10-15) in a back and forth affair.

Edward Waters took sets 1 & 3, while the visiting Chargers took sets 2 & 4 to force a deciding fifth set. The Purple & Orange traded points in the final set, but were unable to grasp victory as minor mistakes became major down the stretch allowing Lancaster Bible to take victory.

As a team, Edward Waters hit .306 in the match, holding Lancaster Bible to a .238 percentage. Evens Edouard led the Tigers with a game high 20 kills, including three service aces and five digs, while Daniel Montero had 15 kills and six digs on the night. Oneil Daley dished out 21 assists, with Kenyon Haynes just behind with 17 assists for EWU.

The Tigers will have a tall task on their hands in their next action as Edward Waters will make the long trip to Honolulu, Hawaii to face the defending NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball National Champion, Hawaii Rainbow Warriors for two weekend matches. The two squads will open their series on Friday, January 14th at 12:00am EST/7:00pm Hawaii Time) and again on Sunday, January 16th at 10:00pm EST/5:00pm Hawaii Time).
