Florida State University issued the following announcement on Dec. 7.
Florida State track and field athlete Alonie Sutton was named the ACC Women’s Co-Performer of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the Atlantic Coast Conference. This is the first time Sutton has earned ACC weekly honors while at Florida State. Sutton shared honors with Notre Dame’s Rachel Tanczos.
Sutton is coming off a strong performance last Friday at the Clemson Opener. The Smiths Station, Ala., native took home the title in the triple jump with a jump of 12.86m. That mark is currently second in the NCAA and first in the ACC following the first weekend of competition. Sutton also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.91m, which is also a top 20 mark in the country and third in the ACC.
“That was a really strong opening weekend at Clemson for Alonie. She truly deserves this honor,” head coach Bob Braman said.
The Noles will be back on the track Jan. 14-15 at the Clemson Invite in Clemson, S.C.
