Florida State University recently issued the following announcement.
Redshirt senior defender Gabby Carle was recognized on Friday night before the College Cup semifinal as the recipient of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Elite 90
award. She becomes the first two-time winner of the award for women’s college soccer. A native of Levis, Quebec, Canada, Carle has a 4.0 GPA in Exercise Physiology. She
earned the Senior CLASS Award on Thursday for her excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the
national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the
highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.
It is the fourth time that an FSU soccer student-athlete has received the honor from the NCAA as Carle joins Kristina Lynch (2020-21), herself in 2018 and Kacy Scarpa from 2014.
Softball’s Tessa Daniels (2018) and Volleyball’s Amanda Sexton (2011) have also been recognized for their excellence in the classroom.
Carle has been a key to FSU’s success this season, tallying three goals and six assists this season. She has helped lead an FSU defense that has recorded 12 shutouts in 23
games while allowing on 13 goals.
