Hot Shooting, Stifling Defense Leads Men's Basketball to 103-43 Home Opening Win

University of North Florida recently issued the following announcement.

Ospreys match record with 21 three-pointers led by 8 from Adedoyin

The Short Story: Making their home season debut, North Florida men's basketball dominated on both ends of the floor en route to a 103-43 victory over Webber International. The Ospreys matched a program record with 21 three-pointers and shot 56 percent from the field in the victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

- Emmanuel Adedoyin drained 8 three-pointers en route to a career high 24 point performance to pace the Osprey offense | Adedoyin was 8-of-11 from long range (72.7%)

- Chaz Lanier also netted a career best finishing with 15 points while Carter Hendricksen added 12 points in 15 minutes making four three-pointers

- Jacob Crews rounded out the list of double figure Osprey scorers, tallying 10 points

- Jadyn Parker narrowly missed a double-double after scoring 9 points and pulling down a career high 9 boards

- Webber International was led in scoring by Jaylon Myles with 11 points

- Ospreys had 30 assists on 40 baskets in the game | 11 of the 12 players that got into the game recorded an assist

- North Florida outrebounded WIU, 44-34

NOTABLE MOMENTS

- Carter Hendricksen got the 3-point barrage started hitting back-to-back treys to open the game as part of 20-6 run over the first five minutes | Emmanuel Adedoyin also connected on three straight treys in the run

- A 19-2 spurt minutes later that included five more threes extended the Osprey margin over 20 points

- North Florida built a 56-24 halftime lead after shooting 62% from the floor with 12 three-pointers while limiting the Warriors to just 37% including an 0-for-6 effort from long distance

- After intermission, UNF turned up the defense and held Webber without a point for the first five and half minutes of the second period | North Florida scored 11 points during the WIU drought to push the lead over 40 points

- The Ospreys held Webber to just 19 second half points on 21% shooting in cruising to the home opening victory

 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Ospreys improved to 23-7 all-time in home debuts | UNF is now 11-2 all-time under Coach Matthew Driscoll in home lidlifters

- Victory snapped a 7-game losing skid for UNF and was the squad's first win of the 2021-22 season

- The 21 three-pointers made matched the program's single game record set vs Trinity Baptist (11/18/19) | Seven different players made three-pointers in the record tying performance

- Adedoyin's 8 treys marked just the sixth different Osprey player to make 8 or more in a game

- UNF's 30 assists equaled the program's DI single game record (last vs Trinity Baptist, 1/6/15)

- Webber's 43 points marked the second fewest surrendered by the Ospreys in program history

- North Florida's 60-point victory margin was the largest since a 76-point win over Trinity Baptist (11/18/19)

- Marked the 42nd game that UNF has reached triple digits and the 19th time of the Driscoll Era

- 10 different players scored for the Ospreys in the win and 11 players collected a rebound
