Florida State University issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.
Florida State Volleyball middle blocker Emma Clothier earned her first career ACC Player of the Week award on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.
“I’m really proud of Emma this year,” Head Coach Chris Poole said. “She has had to carry an even larger role this year with such a young team. Teams are trying to focus on her and she still finds a way to play consistent. This is a deserving recognition for her hard work.”
Clothier becomes the first Seminole to be named ACC Player of the Week since teammate Morgan Chacon won the honor on March 17, 2020. Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis earned ACC Freshman of the Week honor on Oct. 5 this season.
The junior from Carrollton, Texas, lifted the surging Seminoles (19-6, 11-4) to two big wins this past week, defeating a strong UNF team, 3-1, at home, and going on the road to beat Syracuse, 3-1.
In the two matches combined, Clothier led FSU with 27 combined kills, 3.38 kills per set, a .364 hitting percentage, 1.25 blocks per set and 34.5 points contributed. Late in the season, Clothier has been one of FSU’s most consistent forces as the Seminoles have crept up to the nation’s No. 11-ranked RPI.
She recorded 12 kills, a .346 hitting percentage and seven blocks vs. UNF. She followed with 15 kills, a .379 hitting percentage and three blocks at the Orange, which challenged FSU to five sets two weeks prior in Tallahassee.
Clothier is the only player in the ACC to rank in the current Top 7 of the conference in both hitting percentage (seventh at .338) and service aces per set (tied for sixth at 0.34). She leads FSU with 31 service aces this season.
FSU begins a big three-match homestand to end the regular season, starting this Friday vs. rival Miami at 6:30 p.m. in what will be a Military Appreciation Match. FSU is currently in fifth place in the ACC while Miami is one match ahead at 12-3 in the conference.
