Football Drops Second Straight Road Contest, Falls at Tuskegee

4

Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.

For a second consecutive week, the road and the weather were unkind to the Edward Waters football squad, as the Tigers dropped a 23-6 decision to Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon at Cleveland L. Abbott Memorial Stadium.

Edward Waters (1-2, 0-2 SIAC) once again was its own worst enemy in the contest. The Purple & Orange had five penalties for 60 yards, only had 178 yards of total offense, just nine first downs, were 2-for-10 on third down, and gave up 383 yards of total offense with 243 coming on the ground.

One of the few bright spots for the Tigers in the contest was the play of junior running back De'Shaun Hugee, who finished Saturday's action with 94 yards on 19 carries, averaged 4.9 yards per carry, and scored the Tigers' lone touchdown of the contest in the fourth quarter.

Freshman QB Cedquan Smith came off of the bench to finish 4-of-9 passing for 53 yards, while graduate transfer David Johnson, who started the contest for EWU, finished 3-for-7 for just 11 yards.

Sophomore receiver Steavenson Fernand led EWU with three receptions for 36 yards.

Sophomore defensive back Dartrell Rolle led Edward Waters defensively with 9.5 tackles, one forced fumble, and recorded his first collegiate interception. Junior defensive back Drevontae Jackson also had 9.5 tackles, while freshman linebacker Ahmanuel Thorpe had 8.0 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss.

EWU will return home to Glover Field & Stadium next Saturday, September 25th, where they will welcome the Lane College Dragons for a 6:00pm kickoff. Tickets will be available at EWCTigerPride.com/Tickets.
