City of Atlantic Beach issued the following announcement.
Would you like a tree planted in the right-of-way in front of your home? If so, the City of Jacksonville will do just that! Simply call 630-CITY and request a tree and you will be contacted by one of the city’s arborists. Trees are planted within 6 months, depending on demand, so check here for the right season for your tree. The funding comes from Jacksonville’s tree fund and the trees are planted at no cost to you, all we ask is that you water it and enjoy.

The right of way is typically the area between the street and the back of the sidewalk, and the width can vary. The Jacksonville Urban Forestry staff will inspect the property to determine if the site is suitable for having a street tree based on the following factors: underground utilities (gas, water, sewer and communication lines), utility poles, street lights, overhead service lines, driveways, fire hydrants, stop signs and other street signs, proximity to intersections, proximity to existing tree canopy and the mature size of the selected tree species. Spacing between trees will be determined by the mature size of the species selected and location of existing trees.
The Urban Forestry team has created and released a guide regarding all information the public might need about the new 630-CITY Tree planting program where citizens can request the city to come out and plant a free tree in the City right of way.

This information includes the process that the Urban Forestry Staff goes through in order to sort, inspect and get these trees planted on the city right of way in front of your property. Find the approved tree list and information about what the city right of way is as well as certain specifications that the Urban Forestry Team looks for when deciding what species will be the best to be planted in the right of way.
