After dropping the first set of their SIAC women’s volleyball road match against Benedict on Monday evening at the HRC Arena, Edward Waters responded by rattling off the next three sets of the match to earn a 3-1 road victory.

The Lady Tigers (17-8, 8-2 SIAC) faced incredibly stiff competition for the home standing Benedict Lady Tigers (8-10, 6-9 SIAC). Benedict won set #1 25-23, but the Purple & Orange took sets 2, 3, 4 by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-21 to earn another hard fought conference road win. The victory for the Lady Tigers keeps them in sole possession of second place in the SIAC’s East Division, one game behind division leader Albany State.

Statistically, Benedict had the better of the match, notching 52 kills to 51 for Edward Waters, having 10 total blocks to 9 for the Lady Tigers, and had 71 digs to 65 for EWU. Edward Waters on the other hand did have a slightly better hitting night, recording a .166 hitting percentage, to .153 for Benedict.

Fatima Ramirez led Edward Waters with 14 kills,  while Audrianna Jones recorded her second consecutive double-double in as many days with 12 kills and 12 digs. Caytlin Willis chipped in with 11 kills for the Lady Tigers as well. Mataiya Barber dished out 39 assists, while Andrea Diaz Merced finished with a game high 23 total digs in the match.

Edward Waters will finally return to the friendly confines of the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex on Thursday evening in another SIAC East Division matchup against Clark Atlanta with first serve set for 6:00pm. The contest will also be live streamed on our YouTube channel and live stats will also be available for the match.
