The University of North Florida and the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville are proud to kick off a new season of the annual Distinguished Voices Lecture Series beginning with former Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull discussing “China: The Asia-Pacific Struggle for Control” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Lazzara Performance Hall in the UNF Fine Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public as part of the Distinguished Voices Lecture Series, supported by the UNF Foundation and co-hosted by the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville’s Global Issues Evenings.
After serving nearly three years as the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, Turnbull possesses a unique and incredibly timely understanding of the current geopolitical moment, forging lasting connections with leaders around the world and speaking to the influence that their politics have on the world at large. Turnbull was involved in key policy decisions that have not only altered Australian society but also have international implications for other countries facing similar issues—same-sex marriage, environmental conservation and energy crises, global trade, cyber security, and the ever-worsening refugee crisis. Prior to taking public office, he was also a successful entrepreneur and businessman who worked his way to the top of a major global investment banking firm and founded several businesses at home and abroad.
