U.S. Senator Marco Rubio recently appeared on America Reports to discuss the aftermath of President-elect Donald Trump's election victory. Rubio addressed the Democrats' call for "resistance," changes within the Republican Party, and what he perceives as the failure of identity politics.
Regarding the Democrats' stance, Rubio questioned their resistance: “Resistance to what? Resistance to what the American people just voted for?” He highlighted Trump's clear campaign promises and noted that despite losing in some states, Trump made them more competitive. Rubio criticized Democrats for underestimating voters, saying, “Their attitude is: ‘You guys are a bunch of dummies. We’re really smart people.’”
Rubio also spoke about a shift among American voters, describing a transformation within the Republican Party into a diverse coalition focused on common concerns like economic stability and national security. He emphasized that this coalition reflects broader American priorities beyond ethnic or racial identities.
Addressing identity politics, Rubio advised Democrats to reconsider their strategies with Hispanic voters: “My free advice to Democrats is, fire all these consultants... because they don’t know Jack.” He argued that Hispanic Americans share similar concerns with other Americans regarding immigration and economic issues.
Rubio concluded by noting that endorsements from celebrities did not sway Hispanic voters during the recent election cycle. Instead, he suggested that everyday experiences and concerns drive voter decisions.
