U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has voiced his support for canceling trade benefits for companies that move production overseas. In a recent statement, Rubio referenced President Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs on John Deere for relocating production to Mexico. He emphasized that while CEOs can choose to outsource jobs, policymakers have the right not to reward such actions.

Rubio highlighted America's historical success as an industrial power due in part to tariffs and trade protections. However, he criticized post-World War policies that lowered tariffs and created agreements allowing duty-free imports from numerous countries. According to Rubio, these changes have incentivized offshoring rather than strengthening the U.S. economy.

The senator pointed out that approximately 300,000 American jobs are outsourced annually, often affecting vulnerable communities like African Americans the most. He questioned why companies like John Deere should receive special treatment when outsourcing production instead of facing standard World Trade Organization duty rates.

Rubio announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at removing trade benefits for firms that offshore production. He believes this measure will ensure trade deals benefit American citizens and maintain economic strength.
