U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on The Ingraham Angle to discuss potential foreign involvement in assassination attempts on President Trump. Below are the highlights from his discussion.
On the involvement of foreign actors in assassination attempts on American political figures, Rubio stated: “I don’t think, when you’re investigating something like [the assassination attempts on Donald Trump], you can rule anything out. I don’t think you can determine it until you have all the evidence, but you can’t rule it out."
He elaborated further by mentioning Iran's public threats: “Iran has said openly that they intend to assassinate Mike Pompeo, Donald Trump, and maybe a couple of other people in revenge for Soleimani. We know that as a fact. They have said it. We’ve had people arrested for plotting that here in the United States. By the way, they’re not going to do it by sending some Iranian person to do it here. They’re going to hire some criminal organization, or maybe they’re going to hire someone who doesn’t even know who’s paying them."
Rubio emphasized that while he is not claiming this scenario occurred in recent events, such possibilities cannot be dismissed without definitive evidence: "I’m not claiming that’s what happened here. I’m just saying none of these things can be ruled out until we know that definitively. And we may not know right away."
He criticized ongoing negotiations with Iran amid these threats: "What we do know is that there is a nation-state that wants to take [Donald Trump’s] life. And yet, the Biden Administration has been negotiating with [Iran] over a nuclear deal up until very recently, even in the midst of all of this."
Regarding security measures for Donald Trump given these threats, Rubio commented: “Add to that, if you know that risk [to Donald Trump] exists, the security can’t just be the security of a presidential candidate... That’s the kind of security profile that person has to have.”
On the Iranian regime’s hostility towards Donald Trump, Rubio concluded: “The Iranian regime does not want Donald Trump to be president, and they don’t want him alive. Those two things are true. Anytime someone goes after him, we have to assume they’re behind something.”
