During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden-Harris Administration’s Build Back Better agenda created a childcare solution that encourages both parents to work full-time and place their children in third-party childcare facilities. This policy has been criticized for not addressing the diverse needs of many families.
In response, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Respect Parents’ Childcare Choices Act to better align federal childcare initiatives with the preferences of American families.
“Under the guise of COVID-19 relief, the Democrats sought to mandate a one-size-fits-all childcare agenda that fails to reflect the diverse needs of American families. The Respect Parents’ Childcare Choices Act would give families the flexibility and support they need to make the best decisions for their childcare,” said Senator Rubio.
This legislation is endorsed by Heritage Action, American Principles Project, and American Compass.
Specifically, this legislation aims to reform the Child Care and Development Block Grant system by:
- Supporting families who raise their children at home;
- Eliminating marriage penalties;
- Empowering relative caregivers;
- Creating and implementing a 100% voucher system;
- Protecting faith-based daycares; and
- Increasing annual authorized funding.
