Several of Florida’s coastal military installations suffer from shoreline erosion and storm damage. Currently, there are limited options to address such damages, and pursuing funding through the formal military construction process can often take several years before an installation can fully repair its shoreline. The damages, in the meantime, may reduce the installations’ effectiveness in carrying out their mission.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Military Installation Shoreline Protection Act to make repair funding for these damages easier and quicker to access.

“Our military needs to be mission-ready at all times. Along the coast, many of our military installations are dealing with damage that can’t wait for years of red tape in order to be fixed. My Military Installation Shoreline Protection Act would allow issues to be addressed in a more timely manner,” said Senator Rubio.
