On May 23, 2024, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution introduced by Senator Rick Scott and Senator Jacky Rosen celebrating May as Jewish American Heritage Month. The resolution acknowledges the contributions of Jewish Americans to the United States and urges elected officials, faith leaders, and civil society leaders to condemn and combat antisemitism.
Senator Rick Scott expressed his pride in the unanimous passage of the resolution. "I am proud to see the unanimous passage of our bipartisan resolution recognizing Jewish American Heritage Month and honoring the wonderful contributions of Jewish Americans to our great nation," he stated. "As we witness a disgusting rise in antisemitism across America, the action taken by the U.S. Senate today sends a clear message that we stand proudly with Jewish Americans and against hate and antisemitism wherever it is found."
The resolution received support from numerous senators including Rubio, Gillibrand, Grassley, Menendez, Cramer, Kaine, Hagerty, Warnock, Lankford, Cortez Masto, Barrasso, Padilla, Crapo, Fetterman, Cassidy, Wyden, Risch, Hickenlooper Graham Baldwin Cotton Van Hollen Hoeven Murray Blackburn Kelly Shaheen Cardin Duckworth Casey Ossoff Schumer among others.
Senator Jacky Rosen emphasized the importance of celebrating Jewish heritage amidst rising antisemitism. “At a time when antisemitism is at a record high in America,” she said “it’s more important than ever to celebrate Jewish heritage in the United States. I’m proud to have helped introduce and unanimously pass this bipartisan resolution to honor the countless contributions Jewish Americans have made to our nation’s history and culture.”
This marks another consecutive year where such a resolution has been passed unanimously by the Senate. Last year's similar resolution was also introduced by Senators Rick Scott Jacky Rosen Tim Scott Ben Cardin co-sponsored by 33 senators.
Senator Rick Scott has been active in addressing antisemitism on college campuses through initiatives like his Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act co-introduced with Senator Tim Scott which aims to rescind federal education funding for institutions that facilitate or promote violent antisemitic events.
