Ruggiano’s Goal Lifts Dolphins Over Charleston Southern

Sophomore Isabella Ruggiano's goal in the 71st minute helped propel the Jacksonville women's soccer (3-0-1) on the road over Charleston Southern, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

The score remained tied at 0 entering the halftime break. The Dolphins nearly found the scoring column in the 24th minute, with their lone shot on goal in the first half by Selma Fohrer was saved.

In the 71st minute, Ruggiano would score the winning goal for the 'Phins, off a rebound following a blocked shot from Anaya Black.

The score would hold, as the Dolphins would secure the 1-0 victory over the Buccaneers, the third consecutive win for Jacksonville.

The freshmen duo of Gretchen Duttenhofer and Murphy Sheaff combined for seven saves on the day for JU.

Following the victory, the Dolphins now have the longest unbeaten streak to begin a season since 1998, when Jacksonville began the campaign with four-straight victories.

The women's soccer program returns home to Southern Oak Stadium this Thursday evening at 7:30 for Military Appreciation Night, when the Dolphins play host to Georgia Southern.
