Women's Basketball takes down Columbia International

Edward Waters College issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.

Looking to close the 2021 calendar year strong, the Edward Waters women's basketball team stretched their winning streak to three with a convincing 81-57 non-conference victory over Columbia International Tuesday evening at the James Weldon Johnson Auxiliary Gymnasium.

Edward Waters (10-4) met little resistance from Columbia International (4-7), leading wire-to-wire in the contest and dominating in nearly every statistical category. The Lady Tigers led by as much as 28 points in the fourth quarter and easily cruised to one of their most complete victories in the season.

EWU outshot CIU 37.8% to 26.8%, outrebounded the Rams 65-42, including a 23-15 edge in offensive rebounding, and scored 21 points off of 20 Rams turnovers. The Purple & Orange established their dominance in the paint, outscoring Columbia International 54-26 while also taking a 21-10 edge in second chance points, and a 22-12 advantage in fast break points.

The Lady Tigers had four players in double figures, led by La'Quanza Glover who picked up her 7th double-double of the season and 57th of her career with a game high 18 points, 21 rebounds, and six assists. Emari Bell also had a double-double effort with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Teiyahna Hutchinson had 15 points, five boards, and four steals, and Sha'Kawanza Brown had 10 points, five assists, and six steals for Edward Waters.

Edward Waters will have their final home contest of the 2021 calendar year on Saturday, December 18th against the Lady Magicians of Lemoyne-Owen College in an SIAC matchup. The contest is part of a doubleheader starting at 2:00pm, followed by the men's contest at 4:00pm at James Weldon Johnson.
