Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 2.

It was as quality of a performance from the Edward Waters football squad as has been seen in many years, as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing with a 37-13 road victory over Morehouse on Saturday afternoon at Lakewood Stadium.

In the process, Edward Waters (2-3, 1-3 SIAC) snapped an eight-game losing streak to Morehouse (0-5, 0-1 SIAC), a 10-game road losing streak (First road win since Oct. 6, 2018 when EWU beat Warner 33-30 in overtime in Lake Wales), and picked up their first road victory as an official NCAA Division and SIAC member.

The Tigers opened the scoring by going on an 11 play, 82-yard drive which culminated in a 51-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Ferante Cowart, giving EWU a 7-0 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Morehouse came back with a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown with :25 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point was no good, and the Tigers held one to a one point advantage at 7-6.

The Purple & Orange added to their lead with a 22-yard field goal from senior Angel Sevier that gave EWU a 10-6 lead with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter, which is where the score would remain at the half.

The Tigers special teams unit got in the scoring act themselves when junior DB Ahmaud Jordan scored a touchdown a blocked punt with 12:57 left in the third quarter to extend the Tiger lead to 17-6.

After an interception by senior LB Cameron McClain, Edward Waters capitalized as freshman RB Devin Bailey scored his first collegiate touchdown of his career with a 35-yard scamper to give EWU a commanding 23-6 lead with 10:44 remaining in the third.

Morehouse was able to score their first offensive touchdown of the contest at the 6:20 mark of the third to cut the EWU lead to 10 at 23-13.

Edward Waters quelled the Maroon Tiger momentum to start the fourth when sophomore RB Spencer Carter scored his first EWU touchdown from one yard out to extend EWU lead to 30-13.

For good measure, with 6:24 remaining, sophomore WR Elisha Ammi scored off of a tipped pass from 33 yards out to put the final nail in the Morehouse coffin, giving the Tigers a 37-13 lead that they were able to hold on to and preseve victory.

EWU also forced five turnovers in the game as well, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions. The Tigers special teams also had two more blocked punts in the contest.

Freshman QB Cedquan Smith finished 10-16 passing for 181 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Ferante Cowart finished with a game high 77 yards on four catches and a touchdown, while junior WR Steavenson Fernand had is best performance in his EWU career with three catches for 71 yards.
