CITY OF ATLANTIC: AB coronavirus update: Friday, March 20: Beaches, restaurant dining rooms closed

Update

City of Atlantic Beach issued the following announcement on March 20.

Please note: The City of Atlantic Beach’s full message is at www.coab.us/945/Coronavirus-Information.

President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and Atlantic Beach Mayor Ellen Glasser have declared federal, state and local emergencies, respectively, due to the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). As such, the City of Atlantic Beach is taking steps to protect the public and City employees, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by suspending most non-essential public gatherings until further notice.

The City of Atlantic Beach strongly discourages congregating, whether indoors or outdoors. Please exercise common sense. While the City has not closed parks and preserves, please create and maintain space for individual health and the health of other residents.

These steps are an effort to promote social distancing to slow the local spread of COVID-19.

BEACH CLOSURES: Effective 5 p.m. Friday, March 20, the City of Jacksonville -- with the support of Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach -- is ordering the closure of all beaches in Duval County to the public. Beach closures are for everyone: the general public, tourists and residents of all beach communities in the Consolidated City of Jacksonville. Beach closures are 24/7 until further notice. At 5 p.m. Friday, March 20, patrols of the beaches will begin by local authorities to ensure compliance with the closure order. Those patrols will occur daily to ensure compliance with this order.

FEDERAL DRIVE-THRU COVID-19 TESTING SITE OPENS MARCH 21. The federally sponsored drive-thru COVID-19 testing site will open Saturday, March 21, at TIAA Bank Field in parking lot J. The site will operate seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for as long as supplies last. While a doctor’s order and appointment are not required at this location, clients will be evaluated by a medical professional on site. Patients who do not meet the criteria will not receive a test and will be sent home. Info: www.coj.net.

RESTAURANT DINING ROOMS ARE CLOSED. Gov. DeSantis ordered March 20 that on-premises consumption of food or alcohol is prohibited in restaurants. The order allows restaurants to sell food for carry-out and delivery. Gov. DeSantis previously ordered the closure of all bars and nightclubs.
