Senator Rick Scott has announced his support for the Eliminate Shutdowns Act, joining Senator Ron Johnson in an effort to prevent future government shutdowns. The proposed legislation aims to remove the possibility of a shutdown and address concerns over using such threats during budget negotiations.
Scott is also leading the No Budget, No Pay Act, which would require lawmakers to pass annual budget resolutions and appropriations bills on time or risk losing their taxpayer-funded salaries.
In a statement, Senator Scott said, “The American people are sick of the constant looming threat of a government shutdown due to Leader Schumer and Democrats’ ridiculous demands. This most recent threatened Schumer Shutdown is just the latest in a string of temper tantrums the Democrats have thrown to try and stop President Trump delivering for the American people.Democrats’ demands are a wasteful, liberal wish-list while President Trump and Republicans are working to fund the government and work for the American people. Families shouldn’t suffer because of Democrats’ dysfunction. I’m proud to join Senator Johnson on his effort to take shutdowns off the table to end this chaos and get to work on passing real appropriations bills and hold Congress accountable for doing so with my No Budget, No Pay Act.”
The Eliminate Shutdowns Act is intended as a bipartisan measure aimed at encouraging timely passage of federal budgets and reducing uncertainty for Americans affected by lapses in government funding.
