Senator Rick Scott, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Seapower, announced that the Senate-passed Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes several measures aimed at supporting Florida’s military community and advancing national security priorities.

Scott highlighted efforts to prevent the Department of War from buying computers and printers made in China. He stated these products pose security risks by potentially allowing access to sensitive U.S. information.

“Our military men and women represent the best of what it means to be an American and a Floridian. They wake up every day, often in dangerous places and away from their loved ones, to fight for the freedoms that make our country great. As Florida’s United States Senator, I am proud to work with President Trump, a true champion of our warfighters and veterans, to support our service members and their families. We were able to secure big wins for Florida and our military in this year’s Senate-passed NDAA, including pay raises for our troops and projects that make life better for military families in Florida with critical military construction projects throughout the state. We will also make great investments in our national security by getting Communist China out of our supply chains, drug manufacturing, and technology, keep Homestead Air Reserve Base ready for a renewed flying mission, and ensure readiness across all domains. These efforts are critical to support our troops and keep future generations of Floridians and Americans safe,” Scott said.

He added his appreciation for colleagues involved in passing the bill: “I would like to thank Chairman Wicker, Ranking Member Reed, and all of my Senate colleagues for their work to get this bill passed in the Senate, and I look forward to it passing the House and being signed into law.”

Key provisions secured by Scott include over $950 million dedicated to military construction projects across Florida such as building a Child Development Center at Eglin Air Force Base. The NDAA also extends restrictions on joint civilian-military use at Homestead Air Reserve Base until 2034 due to increasing security concerns related to Latin America.

The legislation provides a 3.8% pay raise for military personnel nationwide. It mandates generic drug makers disclose where pharmaceutical ingredients originate as part of broader steps addressing dependency on Chinese-made drugs within government supply chains.

Additional measures require federal agencies like Health and Human Services to map out critical medicine supply chains vulnerable to shortages or foreign disruption. The act bans purchases by DoW of solar panels or telecommunications equipment produced by Chinese companies identified as national security threats.

The NDAA further encourages inviting Taiwan’s participation in multinational defense exercises while obligating reporting if no invitation is issued; strengthens annual reviews adding Chinese entities under U.S. sanctions lists; allocates $80 million toward counter-tunneling cooperation with Israel; supports Service Academy athletes pursuing professional sports careers while serving; authorizes studies on strategic material pricing; among other items intended both for force readiness improvements within Florida installations such as those on its space coast.
