Rick Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing concerns about the Venezuelan government and Chinese influence in U.S. infrastructure.
On August 7, 2025, Scott wrote: “Time for Maduro and his thugs to take note — this isn’t the Biden administration! @POTUS, @SecRubio, and @AGPamBondi will hold you accountable for your crimes.” Later that day, he reiterated his message in Spanish: “Es hora de que Maduro y sus matones tomen nota, ¡esta no es la administración de Biden! @POTUS, @SecRubio y @AGPamBondi lo harán responsable por sus crímenes.”
On August 8, 2025, Scott shifted focus to China’s role in technology security. He stated: “The CCP uses every tool at its disposal to infiltrate our lives, including smart products designed with a built-in backdoor for Communist China to access. My Protect the Grid Act calls for an investigation into the CCP’s influence to help secure our grid.”
Senator Scott has been vocal about foreign policy issues involving Venezuela and China. His remarks regarding Nicolás Maduro refer to ongoing tensions between the United States and Venezuela over human rights concerns and alleged criminal activity by Venezuelan officials. The reference to holding Maduro accountable echoes previous calls from U.S. lawmakers for increased pressure on the Venezuelan regime.
In addition, Scott’s comments about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) reflect broader bipartisan worries in Congress about potential vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure posed by foreign-made technology. Legislative efforts like the Protect the Grid Act are part of attempts to address these national security risks through oversight and regulation.
