Rick Scott, U.S. Senator representing Florida, published several statements on October 16, 2025, addressing concerns about Venezuela and recent reports involving China and California wildfires.

In two posts made at the same time, Scott expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden and Secretary Marco Rubio for their actions regarding Venezuela. In his Spanish-language post, Scott wrote, “Gracias, @POTUS y @SecRubio, por responsabilizar a Maduro y sus matones. Maduro es un narcoterrorista y líder de cártel. No es el presidente legítimo de Venezuela. El pueblo de Venezuela y nuestro hemisferio estará mejor una vez que salga del poder.” (October 16, 2025). In a corresponding English-language post, he stated, “Thank you, @POTUS and @SecRubio, for holding Maduro and his thugs accountable. Maduro is a narcoterrorist and cartel leader. He’s not the rightful President of Venezuela. The Venezuelan people and our hemisphere will be better off once he’s out of power.” (October 16, 2025).

Later that day, Scott commented on reports involving China and California. He wrote, “Reports that Communist China is taking advantage of the devastating California wildfires this past January are extremely concerning! Sent a letter to @SecScottBessent thanking him for his work and asking him to look into this asap “ (October 16, 2025).

Scott has been an outspoken critic of Nicolás Maduro, who has faced international condemnation over allegations of human rights abuses and questions regarding the legitimacy of his presidency. The United States has not recognized Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela since 2019, instead supporting opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president. Additionally, concerns about foreign interference and exploitation following natural disasters have been raised in recent years, particularly regarding China’s involvement in Latin America and the United States.
