Senator Rick Scott, a Republican representing Florida, has recently used his social media platform to comment on U.S. border security and foreign policy. In a series of posts made on August 9 and 10, 2025, Scott expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding immigration and drug enforcement.
On August 9, Scott stated: “President Trump again made the right move by putting America first and keeping our communities safe. The days of Maduro and his thugs bringing deadly drugs and violence into our country are over. Let’s all remember that Maduro is the head of Tren de Aragua and Cartel de los”. Later that day, he reiterated these remarks in Spanish: “El Presidente Trump volvió a hacer lo correcto al poner a Estados Unidos en primer lugar y mantener a nuestras comunidades seguras. Los días de Maduro y sus matones trayendo drogas mortales y violencia a nuestro país han terminado. No olvidemos que Maduro es la cabeza del Tren”.
In another post dated August 10, Scott expanded his comments to include other political figures: “President Trump and @Sec_Noem are doing what Joe Biden wouldn’t: secure our borders, hold Communist China accountable, and put American workers first. Now, let’s build on this and make sure the CBP doesn’t let the CCP evade tariffs or exploit loopholes to undermine the U.S.”.
The references in Scott’s statements highlight ongoing concerns among some U.S. lawmakers about border security, transnational crime linked to Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro’s government, as well as economic competition with China. Senator Rick Scott has previously voiced strong opposition to both the Maduro regime in Venezuela—often citing alleged links between Venezuelan officials and criminal organizations such as Tren de Aragua—and policies from President Joe Biden’s administration related to immigration enforcement.
These comments come amid continued debate within Congress over strategies for addressing illegal drug trafficking at the southern border and managing trade relations with China.
