Rick Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida, addressed international affairs and human rights in a series of tweets posted on July 22, 2025.
In one tweet, Scott referenced the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and recent shifts in U.S. foreign policy. He stated: “It’s been 655 days since Joe Biden’s weak appeasement empowered Iran-backed Hamas terrorists to attack Israel and take innocent people hostage. Thank God we now have a president who stands with Israel and reminds the world of America’s strength! “ (July 22, 2025).
In another post later that day, Scott marked the anniversary of Oswaldo Payá’s death by highlighting his legacy as a Cuban dissident. He wrote: “Thirteen years ago, Oswaldo Payá was tragically murdered by Castro’s evil regime. Today, on the anniversary of his death, we remember his life as a peaceful freedom fighter. Oswaldo’s legacy continues to live on through our fight for a new day of freedom and democracy in Cuba!” (July 22, 2025).
Oswaldo Payá was a prominent Cuban dissident known for advocating democratic reforms and human rights in Cuba before his death in 2012 under circumstances that drew international scrutiny.
Senator Rick Scott has consistently spoken out against authoritarian regimes and voiced support for allies such as Israel and figures like Payá who have opposed government oppression.
