Rick Scott, U.S. Senator representing Florida, posted a series of messages on September 5, 2025, addressing both the upcoming G20 conference and the passing of a prominent community member in Tampa.
In his first post, Scott highlighted Florida’s role as host for an international event: “Excited to have the 2026 G20 conference in the great state of Florida! Miami is known for its vibrant culture and warm communities, making it the perfect place to show world leaders all America has to offer.” (September 5, 2025).
Later that day, Scott expressed condolences regarding the death of Louis Capdevila. In English he wrote: “Ann and I were saddened to hear of Louis Capdevila’s passing. Louis was a pillar in the Tampa community, known by all as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Most importantly, he will always be remembered as a man of incredible faith and love for” (September 5, 2025). He also shared similar sentiments in Spanish: “Ann y yo sentimos profundamente el fallecimiento de Louis Capdevila. Louis era un pilar en la comunidad de Tampa, conocido por todos como un hijo amoroso, esposo, padre, abuelo, hermano y amigo. Lo más importante es que siempre será recordado como un hombre de increíble fe y” (September 5, 2025).
The announcement regarding Miami hosting the G20 comes as Florida continues to position itself as a hub for international events and diplomacy. The G20 summit brings together leaders from major economies around the world to discuss global financial stability and other pressing issues.
Louis Capdevila was recognized locally in Tampa for his dedication to family and faith. Community members frequently described him as a central figure whose influence extended across generations.
