Senator Rick Scott, a U.S. Senator from Florida, posted on August 8, 2025, about his meeting with Cuban American leaders in Miami and expressed continued support for freedom advocates in Cuba. In his first post, Scott stated, “Great to be in Miami with Cuban American leaders to discuss how we can continue working together to stand with the freedom-fighters in Cuba and continue our maximum pressure campaign on Castro/Díaz-Canel and their thugs.” The tweet highlighted ongoing efforts to oppose the current Cuban government led by Miguel Díaz-Canel and maintain pressure on its leadership.
Shortly after, Scott reiterated his message in Spanish.
Later that day, Scott shifted focus to the situation involving Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He posted: “Instead of spending today with one another, Ariel and Arbel remain torn apart as Hamas terrorists continue holding him and innocent Israelis hostage 672 days later. We will not give up on the hostages until every single one of them is home!” This statement refers to ongoing concerns regarding hostages taken during the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Scott’s comments reflect longstanding positions among some U.S. lawmakers who have advocated for increased sanctions and diplomatic pressure against the Cuban government following decades of strained relations between the United States and Cuba. Additionally, calls for the release of Israeli hostages have been prominent since attacks by Hamas led to abductions during escalations in regional violence.
