Senator Rick Scott, a Republican representing Florida, made several statements on October 7, 2025, addressing both domestic and international political issues through his social media account.
In one post from October 7, Scott criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s stance regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stated: “NYC Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s threats to arrest PM @Netanyahu are absurd. @RepStefanik & I are leading the Sovereign Enforcement Integrity Act to ensure no rogue local or state leaders try to arrest leaders of America’s allies on our soil.”
Later that day, Senator Scott extended birthday wishes to Maria Corina Machado, an opposition leader in Venezuela known for her advocacy against the Maduro government. He followed with an English-language message: “Happy birthday to my friend and Venezuelan freedom and democracy leader, @MariaCorinaYA! Thank you for all that you do to stand up to Maduro and his thugs and stand with the people of Venezuela.”
The Sovereign Enforcement Integrity Act mentioned by Scott is proposed legislation aimed at preventing local or state officials in the United States from taking legal action against foreign leaders who are allied with the U.S., reflecting ongoing debates about federal versus local authority in matters of international diplomacy.
Maria Corina Machado has been a prominent figure in Venezuelan politics, consistently opposing President Nicolás Maduro’s administration. Her efforts have garnered support from various U.S. lawmakers who have condemned alleged human rights abuses under Maduro’s rule.
