U.S. Senator Rick Scott, who represents Florida and chairs the Senate Special Committee on Aging, addressed several national and international issues in a series of tweets posted on February 17 and 18, 2026.
On February 17, Scott expressed concern over reports involving the detention of an American citizen by Venezuelan officials.
Later that day, Scott criticized Senate Democrats for actions related to Department of Homeland Security funding. In his tweet he stated, “Today, Coast Guard, TSA, FEMA, and so many others were forced to work without pay. It’s all because @SenSchumer and Senate Dems defunded DHS and left town, with ZERO CONCERN because THEY STILL GET PAID. It’s wrong! Here’s how the No Budget, No Pay Act fixes it “ (February 17, 2026).
In another post early on February 18, Scott commented on tax policy debates involving Mamdani: “Surprise, surprise… it took Mamdani less than 3 months to demand a massive tax hike. It’s the same old story where socialists promise everything for “free,” then demand hardworking Americans pay the price. Socialism NEVER works.” (February 18, 2026).
Scott has served as U.S. Senator from Florida since January 2019 and holds seats on several key committees including Budget; Armed Services; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Foreign Relations (official website). His background includes service in the U.S. Navy and co-founding a healthcare company before entering politics (official website). He regularly communicates legislative proposals and statements on both national and state issues through his official channels (official website). Scott operates district offices across multiple cities in Florida such as Naples, Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Pensacola (official website).
