Rick Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida, used his social media platform on October 11, 2025, to criticize Democratic lawmakers over government funding negotiations and the state of health care in the United States.

In a post published at 00:28 UTC, Scott wrote, “Instead of working with Republicans to fund the government and fix our broken health care system, Democrats want the federal government to keep cutting massive checks to insurance companies forever, using your tax dollars to shore up the sinking ship of Obamacare.”

Later that night at 02:02 UTC, he addressed rising insurance premiums since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), stating: “Obamacare caused average monthly premiums to skyrocket from $242 in 2013 to nearly $600 in 2019. That’s an increase of 140%, and they’re only going up. Our health care system isn’t working. It’s past time Democrats end this shutdown madness and work with us to fix this and make”

By midday on October 11, Scott shifted focus toward military families affected by a potential government shutdown. He posted: “While @SenSchumer cashes his paycheck and relaxes, THIS is what our military families are going through. It should enrage every American that Democrats hate Trump so much that they shut down the government and put our troops through this.”

The debate over health care costs has been ongoing since the ACA’s passage in 2010. According to data from KFF (formerly Kaiser Family Foundation), average marketplace premiums did rise significantly between 2013 and 2019; however, multiple factors contributed to these increases beyond just policy changes under Obamacare (KFF report). The issue of government shutdowns affecting military pay has also been contentious in recent years as Congress negotiates spending bills.

Senator Rick Scott’s comments come amid broader partisan disputes about federal budget priorities and health care reform efforts.
