Rick Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida, posted a series of tweets on October 21, 2025, addressing developments in Colombia and recent actions in the U.S. Senate.
In two tweets, Scott commented on legal outcomes involving former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe and his family. On October 21, 2025, he wrote: “Great news! President Uribe and his family have been put through the unimaginable by the Petro regime. I’m grateful justice has won and that we have @POTUS and @SecRubio who are standing strong with the people of Colombia.” In a Spanish-language post at the same time, he reiterated: “¡Buenas noticias! El Presidente Uribe y su familia han pasado por lo inimaginable por el régimen de Petro. Estoy agradecido de que la justicia haya ganado y de que tengamos a @POTUS y @SecRubio apoyando fuertemente al pueblo de Colombia.”
Álvaro Uribe, former president of Colombia, has faced legal scrutiny in recent years, including accusations related to witness tampering and fraud. The administration of President Gustavo Petro has taken a different approach from previous governments regarding Uribe’s legal challenges.
In another tweet posted later that day, Scott addressed ongoing budget negotiations in the U.S. Senate. He stated: “.@POTUS is right! Senate Republicans have voted 11 times to fund our government, & @SenSchumer & Democrats have blocked it EVERY TIME. It’s shameful that Democrats continue to put their liberal wishlist and pure hatred of President Trump over the needs of the American people.” Congressional funding debates have led to repeated partisan standoffs over appropriations bills and continuing resolutions.
Scott’s remarks reflect broader tensions both in U.S.-Colombia relations and within domestic U.S. politics as Congress approaches deadlines for federal funding decisions.
