Rick Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing both the anniversary of a significant event in Cuban history and his views on current U.S. economic leadership. The posts were made in English and Spanish to reach a broader audience.
On July 13, 2025, Scott marked the anniversary of the sinking of the “13 de Marzo” tugboat by the Castro regime. He stated, “31 years ago, the Castro regime sank the ’13 de Marzo’ tugboat, murdering innocent Cubans who were trying to escape oppression. We will never forget this massacre or the countless horrors inflicted by the illegitimate communist Cuban regime. As Florida’s U.S. Senator, I’m”.
On July 14, 2025, Scott turned his attention to domestic economic policy and Federal Reserve leadership. He wrote: “Jay Powell aided and abetted Joe Biden’s inflation nightmare every step of the way, and now he’s doing everything he can to undermine President Trump’s America-first economic agenda. The Federal Reserve is failing American families. Powell MUST go!”
The “13 de Marzo” tugboat tragedy occurred on July 13, 1994 when Cuban authorities reportedly attacked a vessel carrying civilians attempting to flee Cuba; dozens died as a result.
