Rick Scott, U.S. Senator representing Florida, posted a series of tweets on October 2 and 3, 2025, addressing issues related to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and the potential for a U.S. government shutdown.

On October 2, Scott highlighted the plight of Israeli hostages held by Hamas: “Eli’s story is a powerful reminder of Hamas’ uninhibited cruelty and inhumane treatment of innocent Israelis. For 727 days, nearly two years now, these hostages have suffered unimaginable pain at Hamas’ hands, barely alive if not already dead. These innocent Israelis cannot be”.

The following day, he criticized Democrats regarding federal budget negotiations: “Democrats are more than willing to shut down the government and force Americans to go without a paycheck. But would these same Dems be willing to forgo their own paycheck for causing a shutdown? Time to pass my No Budget, No Pay Act and find out.”

Later on October 3, Scott commented on prospects for peace in the Middle East: “.@POTUS wants peace. Israel wants peace. The choice is up to Hamas: accept peace and release every hostage, or face the consequences. Hamas has had nearly two years — 728 days — to make the choice of peace and release every single innocent hostage. They chose evil every time.”

The senator’s statements come as tensions remain high between Israel and Hamas after years of conflict that have resulted in casualties and ongoing hostage situations. The issue of U.S. government shutdowns has also been contentious in recent years; proposed legislation like Scott’s “No Budget, No Pay Act” seeks to withhold pay from members of Congress during periods when no federal budget is enacted.
