Rep. John Rutherford, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 5th district since 2017, recently posted several messages on social media addressing military appreciation and legislative updates.

On September 18, 2025, Rutherford acknowledged the anniversary of the United States Air Force with a message of gratitude: “Happy 78th birthday to the @USairforce! Thank you to the brave airmen and women who bravely defend our country each and every day. Aim High… Fly-Fight-Win! https://t.co/XO7w8ppi6B”

The following day, September 19, he marked National POW/MIA Recognition Day by honoring missing and imprisoned service members: “The POW/MIA flag flies across our nation to remember the more than 81,000 Americans who went missing in action or were imprisoned for their loyalty to our nation in the midst of conflict. This National POW/MIA Recognition Day, may we never forget their sacrifices. https://t.co/5OO6YLQwpx”

Later that same day, Rutherford commented on recent legislative activity in Congress: “Today, House Republicans passed a clean, short-term continuing resolution to fully fund the core functions of the federal government, so that President Trump and his administration can continue to identify waste, fraud, and abuse of American taxpayer dollars, protect our borders,”

John Rutherford has represented Florida’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Ander Crenshaw in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1952 and currently residing in Jacksonville at age 70, Rutherford graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
