Rep. John Rutherford, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 5th district since 2017, recently highlighted several issues on his social media account, including local innovation efforts, voter identification requirements, and fisheries management.
On February 11, 2026, Rutherford commended the University of North Florida’s work in utility innovation: “Thanks to the hard work being done right now at the University of North Florida, our community is becoming a leader in utility innovation and resilience. Addressing election security on February 12, 2026, he stated: “As Americans, we need IDs to live our daily lives from opening a bank account to renting a hotel room, boarding a plane, driving a car, donating blood, and so much more. It only make sense that you would need to show your ID to choose the next president of the United States.”

John Rutherford has served as the representative for Florida’s 5th District since replacing Ander Crenshaw in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1952 and currently residing in Jacksonville, Rutherford graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
