Rep. John Rutherford, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 5th district, has recently taken to social media to express his views on a series of legislative matters concerning government funding and policy support. Through a sequence of tweets, he addresses his commitment to preventing a federal government shutdown and clarifies the intentions behind proposed funding legislation.

On March 11, 2025, Rep. Rutherford criticized House Democrats for their approach towards government funding negotiations, suggesting that their actions are primarily driven by opposition to the current administration. He stated: “House Democrats seem dead set on shutting down the federal government over their disdain for the Commander in Chief, no matter the cost to their own communities.” Emphasizing his dedication to governmental operations continuity, he affirmed his support for passing a full-year Continuing Resolution (CR).

Later that day, at 14:43 UTC, Rutherford further clarified misconceptions about the CR’s impact on law enforcement and veterans’ programs. He assured constituents that “the CR will NOT hurt law enforcement by slashing COPS Grants nor will it zero out the Toxic Exposures Fund for veterans (it actually increases funding).” He described it as a “clean bill” designed to maintain existing funding levels while facilitating President Trump’s administrative agenda.

In another post made at 21:14 UTC on March 11th, Rep. Rutherford accused House Democratic leadership of prematurely opposing the continuing resolution without reviewing its content thoroughly. He remarked: “House Democratic leadership came out in opposition of the continuing resolution BEFORE the text was even printed and are spreading damaging & egregious falsehoods about what the bill does or doesn’t do.” Again emphasizing that it is a clean bill aimed at advancing “President Trump’s America First policies.”
